Local Transport

There are a few bus services that run through the village. In addition there is the KHARS service – a volunteer run option – see below for details.

If you are catching a bus it is worth being at the stop at least 10 minutes early. Buses connect at Watchet for Taunton.

KHARS

KILVE AND HOLFORD COMMUNITY CAR SCHEME

Undertaken by volunteer drivers who get a mileage allowance using their own cars.

We cover the areas of Kilve, Holford, Dytch, Doddington and East Quantoxhead to give independence to those in the rural communities who are unable to drive or do not have access to public transport.

The scheme started on January 1st 2004 and to date we have undertaken over 5000 trips.

All passengers have to be registered with the scheme and 48 hours notice is required for a requested journey.

Once your request has been accepted you will be contacted with the driver’s name, cost of journey and time of pick from home.

Charges are for return trips even if you only travel one way. Passengers travelling together may share the cost, but you must be registered.

Any parking charges incurred will have to be paid by you.

Holders of a VALID Concessionary Bus Pass will be entitled to a 50% reduction on the fee up to a maximum of ÂĢ20.

To/from Bridgwater   ÂĢ15 or ÂĢ7.50   with a travel pass.

To/from Williton surgery   ÂĢ7 or ÂĢ3.50   with a travel pass.

To/from Quantock Medical Centre   ÂĢ5 or ÂĢ2.50   with a travel pass.

Journeys most frequently undertaken include :- Hospital and Clinic visits; Surgeries; Prescription collections; Dentists; Opticians and connections to/from train and coach stations. If you are not sure whether we cover a particular journey then please ask.

KHARS do not operate during weekends.

No guarantee is given that a driver will be available to cover your request.

No child under the age age of 14 may be a passenger unless accompanied by an adult.

NEW DRIVERS ARE ALWAYS WANTED AND WELCOMED

A Disclosure and Barring Service check (Old CRB check) will have to be undertaken by any person wishing to drive for KHARS.
